40K Slow Grow 2024

It’s that time of year again.

Time to jump on into a 40K slow grow.

Whether you’re completely new to the game, returning after a long break, or you just want to start a new army. Then this is the place for you.

We’ve run many slow grows since we first opened. And we learn & refine with each one.

Which is why this one will look a little different to last years.

We’ll be starting at 750 points.

We’ve tried 500 points & it’s too small. We’ve tried Combat Patrol & it’s a separate game so not ideal.

This time we’ll begin at 750 points.

But we’ll be running 2 month rounds.

So there’s more time to get games in and get your armies painted.

So our rounds will look like this.

Round 1, January/ February 750 points

Round 2 March/ April 1250 points

Round 3 May/ June 2000 points.

From round 1 we’ll be playing on a full sized board. And as the aim of the slow grow is to get everyone to the point you’ll be confident going to a tournament.

We’ll be using tournament maps from round 1.

Warhammer Achievements

Rather than running this as a traditional league we want to take the pressure off everyone about winning and encourage you all to get as many game in as possible.

So instead everyone will score points for achievements.

A full list will be put out later but for now achievements will include:

* Paint 750 points
* Play a game
* Play 5 games
* Play someone new
* Show someone new how to play
* Win a game
* Lose a game
* Build 1250 points

How to sign up

To sign up you just need to join our Slow Grow WhatsApp group.

That’s where we’ll run the slow grow. Where you’ll organise your games.

And where you’ll be able to ask & answer questions about the game & your armies.

If you’re already a member of the Leodis Community on WhatsApp you can just find the group from there.

If you’re not a member then drop us an email on our contact form and we’ll send you a link to the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play with unpainted models?

Yes, that's fine. But bear in mind that under the 40k scoring system you will lose 10 points for not being painted.

What do I need to play?

You will need your army that's at least built.
The 40k rules (free on the 40k App)
Your army rules (either free on the app or available in the Codex if it's been released)
A copy of the Leviathan mission deck (We have a few spares to begin with)
Dice, tape measure etc

How to I organise a game?

You arrange games through our Slow Grow WhatsApp group. Either reply to someone who's looking for a game.

Or put a message in there saying you are looking for a game.

It's normally best to include which days you can play on, what army you're using & a general indication of how well you know the rules.

I haven't played for years. How to I learn the game?

Pop amessage in the WhatsApp and let people know you need to learn. People will be more than willing to help you out.

Can I use conversions/ proxies?

The only hard and fast rule we have at the store is that what you put down on the board need to be obvious to your opponent.

So using a conversion for a unit is fine. Using the same, or similar conversions for multiple different units but painting them slightly differently isn't.

If in doubt please ask.

Can I use 3D printed models in the store?

If you're printing an extra bit for a cool conversion. Or a model to represent something that you can no longer get hold of from Games Workshop that's fine.

If you've looked at the price of the hobby. Decided it's too expensive and spent £100's on a printer instead. Then I don't know what to tell you.

You're probably too short for this ride.

And the fact you don't realise that using globs of resin rather than proper models affects your opponents enjoyment of the game. Is..

Well worrying.

How many games do I need to play a round?

Ideally at least 1. But we know that life can get in the way.

If you don't manage to get a game in one round then you can still join in subsequent rounds.
