Description

Kick Off!

In Kick Off!, two players take on the role of team coach for either the rowdy Brewers or the tactical Masons and play a match of Guild Ball, a bloody mob football game of intense action and high stakes.

As the coach, you’ll get to make strategic decisions and exciting plays to rack up victory points. Be the first team to score 12 points and victory is yours! Your players can win points by scoring goals or by sending the other team’s players back to the bench. And as your players make plays on the field, they’ll generate a unique resource that will let your team play harder and bring the Guild Ball crowds roaring to their feet.

Guild Ball Spigot knew from previous experience the practice grounds were always empty this early in the morning. Still, every day he willed one of his teammates to be here when he arrived. He hoped against all the odds that at least one of them would join him. But this morning, like all the others, he was alone once again. His only company was an empty, deep green bottle that had been discarded by someone last night. Spigot stooped to pick it up, the surface slippery from the dew that had formed on the surface of the glass. Gingerly lifting the neck to his eye level, he pinched one eye shut and stared through the bottle like a telescope. Murky, ruddy green gloom; the light from the bright sun overhead was unable to penetrate far through the thick glass. He moved his head two inches to the right, away from the bottle. Clean, clear vision of the low practice ground walls, and the leafy trees around him. The trees rustled slightly in the gentle wind, gleaming in the bright sunlight. Back to the bottle. No vision, just blurs, vague shapes, and warped shadows. Away, shaking his closed eye open and seeing everything clearly. Smiling, he threw the bottle away. With a practiced step of his left foot, he flicked the ball at his feet up into the air slightly, catching it on the top of his boot. The Brewer rolled it forwards and skipped a step, punting the ball up into the air and bouncing it on one knee. As it passed overhead he hopped forward, bringing his right heel up sharply to kick the ball back over his head again. As it passed by his face, Spigot pivoted at the waist and then drove his left foot forward, smashing the ball in a sharp volley. It flew straight and true, striking the goalpost firmly in the centre. The ball ricocheted away to join the other balls he had already fired at the goal this morning. Being free of his demons tasted sweeter than anything he had ever known. True, he couldn’t admit to the team he was completely clean; that was deeply frowned upon in the Brewer’s Guild, but he was privately at peace for the first time in a long while. Reaching underneath the cloth of his shirt, he gently tugged free the Solthecian seal he kept on a chain around his neck. Spigot brought it to his lips and kissed the cold metal.
